We saw them flex their muscles. We watched as they obliterated one another with minor spells for our amusement. As they clashed poorly-tempered steel in a desperate attempt to show which of them was the greatest.

We are of course referring to the Webcomic WAR! of 2009. Alas it returns. And this year they have called out for every Evil Genius the land of WEB has to offer... and so, the mighty Feran warlords of the Marucci line deign to come forth and battle these creatures who dare challenge us.

So it is time, to call our fellow FERANs to battle. We must rally our minions, construct the ultimate in battle automotons, forge the finest weapons and build the greatest defenses. It is time, my friends- for FERA to take its place as the greatest webcomic in this battle of wits, might and courage.

And what can you do to help make this happen? Our loyal followers, that is quite simple. In order to best our nemesis Amuletts of Epic Fail and the hordes of other webcomic would-be-victors in this glorious battle- we first require resources to construct our arsenal.

This is where you come in.

The following gains us resources in units known by the mysterious term "parts". You must search out these "parts" by performing the following acts of bravery and dastardly cunning:

1) Plug and Link FERA any where you can (no trolling or spamming- we want to increase our minions not have our might crippled by moderators).

2) Write a review of FERA and post it on your blog, website etc.- any where you can muster.

3) Rate, review of subscribe/favourite FERA on any or all of the following:

WebComicZ

The WebComic List

Belfry Comics

Comic Hovel (Don't forget to VOTE for us here too).

Comic Listing

Komix!

Top Online Comics

4) Vote for FERA here:

Top Web Comics

Comic Hovel

5) Rate FERA highly on COMICLY.COM by following these links:

Comicly - Fera: Introductions

Comicly- Fera: Kato's first appearance

Comicly- Fera: Arcanus Guardian System Active

6) Comment on your favourite FERA page- interact with me on there, on twitter or even ask me something about the comic on formspring!

7) There is now a downloadable version of the FERA flyer on deviantArt- I've reduced the colours as much as possible to help with printing costs. Feel free to download and print these off- stick them in your local shop window, leave a pile of them at the local comic shop etc. In general get the word out.

8 ) Do you run a podcast or interview site? Email me using the form on the contact page and we can arrange a text based interview or a podcast appearance!

9) Create some fanart to post on your online galleries and link it to us- let me know so that I can add it to our fanart gallery on the main site!

Don't forget you can also join our fan club and interact on deviantArt as well as joining our fan page on Facebook- in the coming weeks we'll be offering contests and prizes for lucky fans that may very well be exclusive to members of these two groups.

*** REMEMBER: In all of the above cases- send us links to what you've done, if you've posted a review- link it in a comment on this page. If you've voted for us- tell us in the same way. And if you've posted flyers etc. let us know in the same way (photo's are always nice too if possible)! ***

Now for the fun part, because I'm sure I've just completely overloaded you with links. I've asked for the assistance of you, my loyal minions, in this epic task so that we might take our rightful place as survivors nay victors of the Webcomic WAR! 2010... the glory of this victory and your assistance is all that we ask.

I'll be keeping an eye on our minions and those who exceed our expectations- the one of you who make the most effort and gives us the most support- will receive a full colour A4 size piece of artwork created by yours truly. It will be signed and you can choose what it will be of, as well as if you want it to be sent via email as a digital file OR posted to you as a physical print. This piece will be one of a kind, and a low resolution- watermarked version will appear on this site as part of the promo for this event.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and make some noise- support the greatest webcomic in the world and bring us that much closer to victory in the Webcomic WAR! 2010.

T III

Core Overload In 1... 2...

So much to do, and so little time...my mind is unravelling, like a tapestry attacked by angry kittens.

There's been a lot going on lately and there's still so much left to come.

For those who are wondering- the Comic Creator's Alliance managed to raise an amazing $10,000 thanks to every ones efforts- an amazing achievement for many reasons. That cash will go towards two very worthwhile organisations to help victims of human trafficking.

There are some major pieces of news regarding Fera specifically. Firstly we are nearing the end of chapter one, and in a couple of pages time our would-be heroes will begin their journey out into the big, bad world. To mark the occasion, once the final page is posted on the site I'll begin the process of preparing the first chapter for print- it will form issue #1 of the comic and I plan to have it on sale both digitally and in print as soon as possible- and certainly in plenty of time for the convention we're attending in July.

As a result of this, and a number of other contributing factors- once the final page of chapter one is posted we're going to be hosting a guest art showcase. This is to give me time to prepare things for print, make preparations for chapter two of Fera and to move house.

During the guest art showcase instead of the usual comic updates we'll be updating with guest comics and fan art created by you the readers, and generally by fans of Fera. We've already received a couple of great submissions and I'm really looking forward to sharing them with you. If you want to join in on the action and create some fan art for Fera or indeed a guest page/comic you're more than welcome to. If you have any questions about submitting artwork or want to send me your images please contact me via email at: t_iii(at)angelk.at

The current deadline for submissions for the showcase will be quite fluid for now, but in general on or before 22nd February would be ideal.

In other news... Fera now has a fanpage on Facebook and a Fan-Club-Group-Thingie on deviantArt. If you're a fan of the comic come and join us, discuss the comic and any thing else for that matter. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

-Margaret Mead

Fera is currently participating in a charity event formed by Lora Innes of The Dreamer. The event is called the “Comic Creator’s Alliance” and includes many well known names from the webcomic community. The event is to help raise money and awareness for a very important cause- that of Human Trafficking. There are many people affected by this- more than we’d like to think and as such there are charities that desperately need your help to make a difference to those lives.

On a personal note, I’m both proud and humbled to be able to participate in this event and might I point out that Lora has managed to do a fantastic job of getting an amazing 85 artists involved in this project. Considering her original goal was perhaps to get 50 artists interested, this is a massive achievement (and of course actually getting those artists to produce the artwork is a collossal task in itself).

Now, where was I… oh yes- these artists all provided artwork featuring female characters from their comics (including Fera) which has now been combined into one epic wallpaper with all of your favourite characters. This wallpaper will be released as a thankyou to all of those who donate on the Comic Creator’s Alliance charity donation drive with funds going to two organizations working on rehabilitation of victims and prevention of this terrible crime.

I’d like to finish this blog with a message from Lora herself, describing the project and giving you all links to see it for yourself:

Monday, January 11th is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. To participate, we formed the Comic Creator’s Alliance–a group of over eighty comic book creators (both web and print) who volunteered our artistic talents to raise money and awareness for this cause. You may not know it, but there are currently 27 million enslaved people worldwide- more than double the number of enslaved Africans during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. UNICEF estimates that 1.2 million children every year are sold into slavery, most of it sexual. The US Department of Justice estimates 16,000 victims of human trafficking are brought into the United States every year. Unlike slavery in the 19th century, what is happening today is happening in secret. So it won’t end until awareness is raised, and people like you and me take a stand.

So here’s what we did: each creator contributed an original drawing of one of our own female characters, and combined them into a single wallpaper image. The wallpaper features characters from The Phoenix Requiem, Girls with Slingshots, Earthsong, Looking for Group, Shadowgirls, Marsh Rocket, The Uniques and three IDW Publishing titles: Fallen Angel, The Dreamland ChroniclesThe Dreamer, and lots, lots more! Donate today to download this unique, once-in-a-lifetime wallpaper. The Donations Drive will last for two weeks, from January 11th – 24th. All proceeds will be split evenly between Love146 and Gracehaven House- two organizations working on rehabilitation of victims and prevention of this crime. and

To learn more about the Comic Creator’s Alliance visit www.comicalliance.weebly.com. Its the start of a new decade- and seriously... "Where are our flying cars?"

This year holds many exciting things for Fera- for myself and fans alike. The cast will be setting out into the wider world(s) to discover the truth- whilst one character will begin documenting her arrival on Mu (before we even catch a glimpse of her in the comic), thanks to the wonder of twitter and the characters journal. We should have this set up by the end of the month so be on the look out for updates here.

Kato has set up her own twitter feed as well- she'll be answering fan questions and generally posting her thoughts over the coming year. So if you have a twitter account go and follow her: @kato_marucci

There is going to be a lot of things to do this year, the site will likely get a full overhaul at some point- there'll be new content, dowloadable wallpapers and avatars for, plenty of artwork for you to enjoy and soon there will even be a Fera shop cropping up on the site.

Speaking of which, the "official" debut of Fera merchandise will be on 17th July 2010 at Londons' Earl's Court 2 Exhibition Centre... why? Because we have a table booked in the SmallPress Artist Alley for the weekend at London Film and Comic Con. It should be great fun and since its our first convention we want to do some thing special.

July may seem like a long way off but we've decided not to kid ourselves- there is a great deal of planning and preparation to come over the next few months to make sure that it all goes well. We may very well post updates as the event gets closer so be on the look out for any promotions, contests and goodies.

In the mean time- did you know that we have a fanpage on facebook? Do you want to keep up with the latest Fera updates? Well here's the place to do it: FERA on Facebook add yourself there as a fan, and spread the word where you can. And of course don't forget you can bother @T_III on twitter any time.

With so much to do this year, and so little time- soon the first chapter of Fera will come to a close and we'll see the cast begin their long trek into the wilderness- we'll meet new friends, discover old enemies and maybe, just maybe see a little romance.

On to a more serious note- I'm always willing to help out with a good cause when ever I can. Last years charity art auction for The Point Foundation was a resounding success and I'm incredibly glad and honoured to have been asked to participate (even though Fera was still quite young at the time).

As 2010 begins myself and several other webcomic artists, led by Lora Innes, are participating in a project called "The Comic Creator's Alliance" the plan is to create a wallpaper with images of female characters from a wide variety of webcomics in order to promote "National Human Trafficking Awareness Day" on 11th January. With the combined fans of the comics involved it's hoped that we'll be able to raise not only awareness but donations that will go to deserving charities involved in rescuing victims of Human Trafficking and the after care involved in such work.

Fera is in good company as artists such as Lar De Souza, Danielle Corsetto, Alan Evans, Rose Loughran, Peter Vine, Taversia, Jessica Cantlope, Scott Austin, Pam Harrison, Byron Wilkins, Dave Reynolds & David A. Sorry about that.

Personally I find it frustrating when partway through a story you suddenly get sidetracked. Sadly life has a way of throwing every thing at us at once. Originally I postponed the next comic update due to being quite ill with swine flu, which took some time to overcome but I'm not feeling much, much better. Thank you to those who offered kind words and it was nice to see a few fans of the comic coming out of the shadows.

I realise there are many of you who read Fera and, I would hope, have been enjoying the story so far. To lay any concerns that fans may have to rest- Fera will return next weekend with a new update. The current chapter will be coming to an end soon, and our would-be heroes will embark on the first leg of their journey as we move into the new year.

Now on to the reasons for my absence. As I've mentioned life does seem to throw an awful lot at us, and every now and then everything seems to happen at once. Since the start of October I've:

1) Had a little over a week of feeling very ill with swine flu- the fever was a joy in itself.
2) Ended up being summoned for a fortnight of jury duty, which was the single dullest and pointless experience in my life- which wasted a full fortnight of my life on a case that lacked any evidence, any witnesses and any common sense... it also involved a banana.
3) Work has been a nightmare, partly because they neglected to pay me for the last month or so due to a paper work error on their part.

I've spent most of the last month ill or stressed out, and with work currently meaning I'm out of the house for a minimum of 12 hours per day, 5 days per week- it was all really getting to me.

Thankfully now, this has mostly been sorted out, and things should start to return to normal- it has highlighted the fact that once I am back on top of everything Fera related I do need to get a real buffer up and running so that things like this are less likely to happen- and so that I can occasionally take a break from work and Fera in order to spend time with my loved ones.

Currently though the main thing I'm concerned about it my fiancee, Donna. She recently started having seizures after being struck by one of the service users that she works with as a support worker. Whether that event caused it or its merely something that was already there that is responding to the increase in her stress levels at work is unclear as yet but as you can imagine she is quite scared. Last week the doctors ruled out a number of possible causes after a series of blood tests, the likeliest possibility is now considered to be epilepsy though to be sure the doctor has referred her to a neurologist. As you can imagine we're now waiting for details on an appointment and Donna is worrying her head off about what it may or may not be. I'm just as worried as she is, though I'm hoping that she can't see it since I'm trying my best to reassure her- the two of us panicking isn't going to help anyone.

So for now- I'll see you guys next weekend with another installment of Fera and hopefully with less doom and gloom.

T III (angelKat Entertainment)

Ch-ch-changes...

First of all, very very sorry for the cliched title… I just couldn’t help myself.

As some of you may already have noticed I’ve been doing some cleaning with the website- generally altering and updating things. We have a new design which will continue to be improved and added to as time goes on, and we’ve upgraded to using WordPress Multi-User thanks to our friend Frumph. And don’t forget the sexy new advertisement slots available on the site- reasonably priced and via Project Wonderful so if you’re wanting to advertise your own comic, personal site or anything else feel free to place a bid.

I’ve began to transfer the Fera-news blog over onto the main Fera site rather than have it on blogspot. The blog will still appear on blogspot but I’d feel a lot better having all of the Fera content housed under “one roof” as it were.

As such, I’ll soon be moving the Ask Kato feature across onto the main site- I’m currently plotting to set it up as a sketchy strip based comic to run alongside Fera… and theres even more content planned for a new character addition shortly. The latter I’m going to keep as a suprise for now so keep your eyes peeled.

Fera is now nearing the end of the first chapter, we’ve been introduced to our initial trio and soon their real adventure/quest will begin.

There has been a recent update missed and I should probably tell you guys why. Well, firstly I’ve gotten myself a job and in the run up to my first week there were ton’s of things to sort out so I’ve been running around like crazy making sure that every thing is in its proper place.

I’m hoping that the new job won’t impact too much on the comic and related things, I’m also in the process of applying for a Small Press table at London Film and Comic Con 2010- once it’s sorted out… and I start panicking about having to learn to drive and produce merchandise etc. by then I’ll let you guys know whats happening.

Along with the comic and everything else I’m also working on a top secret comic jam project with the WebComic Planet Collective- we’ll be releasing more information as we get closer to the launch. To entice you just a little bit, we have talents from a wide variety of comics working on this project, including the writers behind Fera, Myteries of the Arcana and 1977 as well as the artistic stylings and talent of Fera, Lovefeast, 1977, Epic Fail, Capes n Babes, Drunken Fools, Clan of the Cats and many more.

We’re planning to have the project run for a year after launch, depending on its success we’ll be looking into extending it in the form of “seasons”. I’d love to tell you guys more, we’ve been discussing and planning this for a while and I’m really excited to see it starting to come together.

With my previous mention of London Film and Comic Con next year- are there any conventions that you, our readers, would like to see Fera represented at? Which conventions will you be attending in 2010? For the most part I doubt that it would be possible for me to attend conventions outside of the UK- sorry to our international fans but I just can’t afford to travel that far at present.

As for now, things should settle back down this week and you never know- by next week we may even see the launch of the Ask Kato feature in comic form.

As always I’d like to point out that we now have a Fera Facebook Fanpage and you can follow my inane ramblings on twitter. Other than that don’t forget to vote for Fera as often as you can at TopWebcomics and tell everyone you know about the comic- all publicity helps.

If you’re using RSS please remember to update the URL that you are using, as the recent site revamp means that it has now changed slightly, thank you.

And before I forget- don’t be shy, say hello, comment on the comics or even send us some fan art- it’s all appreciated.

Now… onto my review for this week…

Union of Heroes by Arne Schulenberg

I’m not normally a fan of photocomic’s but Union of Heroes is certainly far from normal. Set in an alternate version of Germany where a world is under threat after the disappearance of one of their most prominent Super Heroes we see his average-joe counterpart pulled from our dimension and stuck slap bang in the middle of a strange world, gifted with strange powers and expected to live up to “his” name.

Not only is Union of Heroes beautifully photographed but it shows the dedication of not only the writer and photographer but the fantastic actors and actresses that make up the cast.

So far in the story we have seen fantastic abilities such as Marc, our heroes, ability to absorb metal and using it to modify his body with makeshift weapons etc. to the some what sad curse of Lynn, the eternal victim- doomed to die in the place of innocents for all eternity. The two make an odd duo but as the ominous “One Who Knows” throws these two together we can be sure that there is some purpose behind it. So far Marc and his new friends have began training to shape him into the hero that Germany, and the world, needs- whilst his nemesis plots his downfall from the shadows.

The story is already gripping, and leaves you wanting more- I personally want to learn more about the side characters, the hole that Marc’s hero counterpart left in the world and much much more. A comic or any medium that leaves the viewer/reader asking questions and empathising with the characters is a success by any standards and UoH has these things in abundance.

One thing that always amazed me is the level of accuracy and care in setting up the scenes- the actors genuinely acting out daring fight sequences and much more. I’m sure Arne is very proud of his team and I honestly don’t blame him- they are a dedicated bunch and as a whole they produce not only one of the best photocomics out there, but one of my favourite webcomics that always brings me back.

There is so much to cover in talking about Union of Heroes and the best advice I can give is to go and read it yourself- its fantastic and certainly worth the time it takes to read through the archives. And for those of you who speak German- Union of Heroes is published in both German and English so what are you waiting for- go! get!

T III (angelKat Entertainment)
by yours truly featuring two of the major characters of my webcomic Fera.

The auction is currently taking place and will continue until Friday 24th July so make sure you head over there and take a look at some of the great art up for auction via ebay.

All proceeds go to the Point Foundation- a charity that provides financial support, mentoring, leadership training and hope to meritorious students who are marginalized due to sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

The LGBT webcomic community and the LGBT friendly webcomics have banded together to create some great original art that you'll love and it's all in a good cause.

Follow the links to find out more about this great event- and you never know you may be the proud owner of a unique piece of art. All support is welcomed by everyone involved whether that be bidding yourself of getting the word out to your friends and family- even post details on your own blog if you like.

In other news I attended London Film and Comic Con 2009 at Earl's Court this past weekend (hence the messed up Fera schedule at present- should return to normal shortly) with my fiancee Donna.

It was our first convention and we didn't have a table so we weren't completely sure what to expect. There were some amazing events, artists and costumes over the weekend as well as plenty of famous faces. We were amazed at the turnout for the small press section which was only a recent addition to this particular convention.

Despite arriving early (after navigating the maze/gordian knot that is the London underground system) we were treated to a long queue filled with some... interesting people. I couldn't help but find it funny that the organisers had sent the Cylon cosplayers to police the growing crowds outside the convention centre- a race of machines who's main objective is the genicide of the human race on crowd control? Seriously?

Once we were allowed in on the first day Donna made a bee-line to Vic Mignogna, the voice actor of Ed Elric from Full Metal Alchemist, he's quite short, and his voice is ever so high pitched- I have to admire how well he hides his remarkably strong texas accent in his work. It seemed as though his entire fanbase had turned out to see him- including people cosplaying various Full Metal Alchemist and Dragonball Z characters- even some Chobits characters at one point.

Whilst queueing up to see Vic we were entertained by a group of Ghostbusters being attacked by a Pwanda which then went on to some how get a perfect score on a nearby DDR machine. Close by we had a gaming tournament including everything from Spectrums to Xbox 360's- the apparent organiser of this event was casually wearing a Nintendo Powerglove, something that I haven't seen in the flesh since I was a toddler.

I have to say we were feeling bad for the disheartened Spike (voice actor of Shinji from Evangelion) who despite his young rivals massive queue seemed to only have one or two people requesting autographs over the course of the entire weekend.

A huge amount of our time on saturday was spent meeting and getting autographs from various sci-fi, film and tv stars. Amongst them- Danny John-Jules aka the Cat from Red Dwarf was a pleasure to meet, as was Tom Baker- though a little odd he did offer Donna a jelly baby... which led to some fan-girl/boy-ing. Paul McGann was equally nice and we were suprised that even the likes of Scott Bakula was very cool, though he does have a very strong hand shake. Jewel Staite of Stargate: Atlantis and Eve Myles of Torchwood were both very sweet and Eve was very excited about the Children of Earth episodes that recently aired- claiming that they were just as grueling for the cast in terms of "surely he won't..." and concluded that drama like that really makes for some thing enjoyable to watch.

The list of people we met over the weekend was huge, though we sadly missed Keeley Hawes from Ashes to Ashes and a couple of others who we simply didn't have time to see. I did spend a huge amount of time chatting with Henry Davies on both days of the convention. He was great to talk to and had many interesting things to say.

For those who don't know Henry Davies is one of the artists for the fantastic comics and annuals known as the Beano and the Dandy- with such characters as Dennis the Menace, Bannanaman, The Bashstreet Kids, Desperate Dan, Korky the Cat and Minnie the Minx. For my American audience who may not know of these titles, the Beano and Dandy are two of the most well loved childrens comics in Britain. Most British children have read a copy of them or been given the annuals for christmas at some point in their lives.

In fact it was one of these annuals that was my first book, I was under a year old and I still have it, though it smells of burgers. They have a wide variety of characters, stories and jokes- though the character designs and styles have always been fairly consistent over the years.

Henry took over doing the artwork for the Beano and Dandy in the early/mid-80's so most of their annuals and comics that I have bought in my lifetime have had his name some where inside. It was amazing meeting the man who is at least partly responsible for my interest in comics and seeing him work as well as chatting about anything and everything with him. After requesting a drawing of my mams favourite character (Plug) and my childhood alter-ego (Bannanaman) he graciously produced a piece of art that I could call my own, though ever the perfectionist he refused to accept that he'd done Bannanaman justice and so invited me to have a 2nd picture drawn the following day once he had proper reference free of charge. Personally I love both versions, and it was a delight to get to see him work.

For some reason Henry Davies was how I always pictured a comic artist- bumbling, not quite organised, friendly, interested in the world, people and silly facts such as "is a banana a herb or a berry?" and having hands covered in ink/charcoal whilst wearing tiny victorian-type glasses.

Just to show the kind of person he is, and his dedication to not only his craft but his fans- each time a child sidled up and handed him an annual to autograph or requested a drawing of their favourite character he encouraged them to draw along with him. He gave them tips and showed them how he did things, he even offered one girl his own inking pen and inkwell so that she could finish her drawing, showing her how to get the lines she wanted.

I've heard a number of people in the states complain that there isn't enough children reading comics any more, that most readers are older and comickers seem worried about this. In England we haven't had that problem just yet, we still have the likes of the Beano and Dandy, Oor Wullie, the Broons just to name a few- and its artists like Henry Davies who aren't afraid to encourage an interest in art and comics in the young that really help to keep that alive.

I also managed to get a sketch of a DC character from their WoW comics drawn by Lee Townsend who is the cover artist for a number of Marvel and DC comics. He seemed nice enough although didn't get chance to talk to him much.

There was plenty to see and do, the small press section was well turned out with Ian Sharman from Faster Than Light (who I completely blanked on- sorry) to Fallen Angel Media- an excellant small press printing service that I hope to use in the future. As you'd expect Tokyopop were in attendance with a huge selection of manga and related merchandise (all sold by a girl in a manga-style maid costume), as well as tables selling japanese cuisine, props such as swords, replica costumes and helmets and plenty of prints/photographs.

From the small press three people really caught my eye that I'd never known of before but they made a great impression. First up was Niki Hunter who did an amazing reinterpretation of Kato Marucci of Fera for me, both her and her husband were really nice and Donna got a caricature drawn by Niki as well- she was also kind enough to let me return a shirt that I bought from her on saturday that turned out to be too small and exchanged it for the one I'm wearing as we speak.

Secondly Nanniibim who had some beautiful artwork on show, as well as the small sketchy comic I bought "Shika Shika Monster Mash"- I spoke to her about the small press things that she was producing as well as how she found getting tables etc. at the con and even talked about digital art techniques. She was interested in doing a version of the Fera cast for the guest art gallery I plan to add to the site shortly though I'm going to have to send references to her since she's primarily a digital artist.

Last but not least- Will Kirkby who was sharing a table with Nanniibim his comics are a pleasure to read and theres some thing about him that reminds me of my childhood friend Paul Burr. He's a genuinely nice and friendly guy if you click the link in his name- we bought the card art in his blog of the Full Metal Alchemist cast. His versions are fun and I was impressed that he even included Winry's guardian- he mentioned that he loved drawing elderly manga characters as their style is always so different to the rest of the cast.

Its hard to cram so many brilliant events into one blog post- needless to say fun was had by all and whether it was meeting the stars, hanging out with people or the huge array of talent and merchandise that may have bankrupted me had I not controlled myself it was a great weekend.

Now just as a couple of extra things I witnessed during the weekend:

Picard pulling Batman up about his dress sense (particularly on the knee pads on his shoulders).

Ed Elric's voice actor (american) arguing with an englishman over how to queue in a bathroom.

Ed Elric's voice actor being punched in the face by an Envy cosplayer.

Ton's of furries.

Pizza eating contest (that I missed).

Pwanda assaulting Ghostbusters and playing DDR.

Xenomorph giving out free hugs and scaring anime and twilight fangirls.

Xenomorph giving Predator a hug.

Rorchacht wandering the streets of London.

Square Pies that weren't square and cost the Earth.

The tenth Doctor hitting on Ash Ketchum.

I'm hoping to have a table at next years London Comic Con for Fera, and may even have some sketches of a couple of this years events. I look forward to next years convention and hope to see you guys there.

- T III (angelKat Entertainment)

Fight against the time...

We' ll fly on the white wings of the wind.
- 80 days around the world
(1988 AD)

It was National Willy Fog day on 28th April. For those who don't know what that is- in 1988, as the final episode of the 80 Days around the World cartoon series was aired children and parents across Britain joined in with a sing-a-long to the theme song of the show.

It was the first real interactive event started by a childrens television show- at the time the "studio" was affectionately called the broom cupboard because that really is what it was. Andy Crane came up with the idea, agreeing to send anyone who wanted them the lyrics to the show's theme and the demand at the time was incredible.

Now, 21 years later, there are still students across the country who celebrate this occasion- be it with a sing-a-long or other creative endeavors. This year I thought it'd be nice to get a couple of webcomic people involved and create some holiday snaps of our characters in various places around the world. This is an event that I'd really like to get some people involved in next year as it is really fun and its always great to see what people come up with.

This year however it wasn't supposed to be- but you can see the Fera NWF day pictures up in our main archive. There's always next year.

I mentioned last time that I was going to a comic fair in Newcastle with my fiancee. It wasn't exactly great. True there were a couple of interesting prints on sale but not much else. There were perhaps 4 tables and other than the tiny one that a local comic book shop had, most appeared to be personal collections and hardly in great condition.

In other news I recently had a job interview with a local web games developper, sadly despite advertising for a software engineer with a background in C/C++ they actually wanted an SEO/Social Media type... I was a little disappointed.

Now for the review this week I've chosen a comic that I've been following for a while, I'm not sure how well known it is and its title doesn't really give anything away.

It's....

Sequential Art by Philip M. Jackson

One of those comics that can make you smile 9 times out of 10. The artwork is cute at times and the story arcs are always fun.

It has everything you need from a cast- a comic obsessed pervy Penguin, a gamer/artist, a photographer cat girl... and a psychotic, innocent, dumb-yet-genius squirrel and strange shadow creatures with evil in mind. With the cast that how can it not be fun?

Prepare for anything from silly practical jokes, parodies, Penguins saving the world Bond-style and Mad Science- it has all of these by the bucket load.

At first glance you may think "Hold on- is this comic not trying to appeal to too wide of an audience?" but despite having so many contrasting storylines it really does work. The entire strip is often witty and after reading a few pages you can't help but care about this close-knit group of characters.

So seriously go take a look- if you like a story that has enough gags to make you smile every page or two then you'll love this strip.

- T III (angelKat Entertainment)

Precognition and creepy kids...

If it runs, chase it. For those wondering, psychic abilities do exist on Mu, and is the fundamental building block for all of their worlds magic.

Though it's common place in most areas, it is still some thing that is not fully trusted. Of course healers with these abilities are often welcomed but precognition and telepathy in particular scare the majority of people.

There will likely be an Ask Kato special page at some point to explain how magic works in the world of FERA in more detail.

In other news, I'm planning on heading up to my old University on saturday to attend a small comics fair with Donna... hopefully it'll be fun, judging by the location I'm guessing it'll be rather small. I'll give you guys an update on how it went next time.

Now, a quick look through my bookmarks says that I have yet to mention the comic "Flipside"... so here's another quick mention/review for you guys:

Flipside by Brion Foulke
This is another comic that I've been reading for a while. It's style is very reminiscent of the first few manga I ever picked up when I was at school.

I can't imagine any other style working for this story or the characters- it's one of those rare occasions where both art-style and writing are so well matched that you couldn't have one without the other.

The story centres on two girls, one is a "nymphomaniac jester girl with split personalities" called Maytag and the other, Bernadette, a "respectable swordswoman." The comic itself is set in an interesting world, we have knights, sorcery, horror and romance- what more could you want in any story?

At times Flipside can get grusome, but never really goes too far over the line- in one scene Maytag is thankfully prevented from mutilating herself in order to save Bernadette's life. If you hadn't guessed by now, Maytag and Bernadette are a couple- which in their society is seen as a terrible, dishonourable and sinful thing. Which conflicts with Bernadette's upstanding reputation and her dream of becoming a Knight like her father.

With these two characters alone there is constant emotional turmoil and romantic interludes that make for a nice rest between their adventure and travels. Of course we also have the likes of Crest- the shy ex-knight cadet who is not only inept around girls but trying to avoid the responsiblities of becoming a knight like his late father and his mentor.

Over the course of the story so far we've seen psychopaths, the undead and general dark sorcery cross our trio's path and it makes for an exciting ride. But the relationships between the characters, their families, friends etc. are the point where you really get sucked in.

Whereas in most comics you seem to have "these are the heroes and these are the bad guys... let's see what happens" there is real emotional bonds, relationships, strife and everything in between, depicting the characters real lives and pulling you into their world. This is the kind of storytelling that makes you truly care about the characters and worry about them when they're sick or in danger.

If I haven't sold you on at least reading through the first couple of chapters I don't know what I can say to convince you to click that link and throw yourself into the world created by Brion Foulke.

- T III (angelKat Entertainment)

Of Birthdays and Claws...

<quote>When asked what he wanted to be when he grew up- he paused for a moment</quote><quote>... and then calmly announced that he'd like to rule the world.</quote>

- <from>Biography of the warlord Gen, of Earth.</from>
(<date>circa. 2083AD.)</date>

This weeks FERA update finally shows the diversity in the species referred to as "Orc". I feel I must point out that this diversity is not only on the level of "I have tentacles" etc. but also having technology grafted onto their bodies be that clockwork, sheet metal or even chemical implants/enhancements.

I keep thinking I should have had a "Riiiip" sound effect to show that Dom' had ripped her sleeves off before the last panel but I like how it looks as it is and I don't want to spoil it.

The reasoning behind her ripping the sleeves off is simple- long, flappy sleeves get in the way when you're trying to wield a sword. Also, he original design always had a tattoo on her arm, and it seemed a shame to cover it up.

Having Jakob fight alongside her was partly because although in the original version of the story he plays a minor role, a lot of people seemed to really like his character and it seemed only fair to give him some more "screen time" as it were.

In other news- I'm considering heading to London Film and Comic Con in July with Donna- should be fun, although I am tempted to ask Eve Myles to say "Owen".

Also a big thankyou to all of those who wished me a happy birthday for yesterday (15th April). I had a really nice day and a lovely meal the previous night with Donna.

Since I'm feeling a little lazy today I only have one webcomic to mention:

Broken Plot Device by Lis "LizardBeth" Boriss
What can I say? Broken Plot Device is an excellent comic filled with geek references, parody and some times downright sillyness.

I started reading BPD shortly after starting FERA and was bowled away- the artwork is great, the cast of characters seems huge but at the same time each of them is unique and interesting.

Perhaps the hook that pulled me in may not apply to some but the opening strip brilliantly shows the mixture of pride and terror when publishing that first page of your webcomic.

Over the course of the comic we're introduced to various characters, and there's plenty of geek-goings-on whether that be perverted cyber-pets, gadgetry, pokemon and much more.

If you like geek-stuff, don't mind anthro characters and love great art then you really should check BPD out. What more can I say... theres Dragons and Ninjas if that helps? And the creator also does a regular ustream of her working on various pieces of art- as with the other ustreams I've seen (such as Lar DeSouza, Jennie Breeden and Keith W.) its all good stuff and if you're like me you'll enjoy learning how others do their work and perhaps it'll help improve your own.

- T III (angelKat Entertainment)

First blood...

ORC,
species classification: Mongrel/Hybrid...
disposition: violent....
suggested course of action on encounter: RUN.

- Travellers Guide to Mu.
(circa. 2066 AD)

This weeks update see's our first taste of action in the battle for Arcanus and the first glimpse of the Orc's of Mu.

It should become apparent when we see more of this species that they're some what of a hybrid/mongrel type than anything else. We will see them display attributes of other races in the future.

Also this week will see a special version of the Ask Kato updates appear in the main archive on FERA. Normally I've been doing these as text based blogs, but for this week as a promotional thing I've decided an one-off illustrated version may be fun.

After doing the basic lines for it, I can say it should be fun to do and I may even consider doing this as a regular thing for Ask Kato (perhaps once a month or so- using "the best questions of the past month").

I'd consider converting Ask Kato entirely into an illustrated form, but the trouble is that some questions become complicated and "wordy" answers can make an illustrated version seem a little too crowded with text.

There isn't a great deal more to talk about this week so let's take a look at a couple of webcomics I've been reading lately:

Two Kinds by Tom Fischbach
Two Kinds is one of those stories that can draw you in and paint a vivid image of a world so unlike our own. We have magic, anthropomorphs (or furries if you prefer the term), racial tension and so much more.

The feeling of conflict and conspiracy at times can make for great drama, but the writer still makes time for random humour that not only lightens the mood but adds more dimensions to the characters. In some ways we can spot old cliches in the plot- such as the enemies who fall for one another. The powerful mage with amnesia. Even the two-legs/four-legs tension has become cliched in recent years.

Despite all of these obstacles placed in the writers way, he manages to pull it off. The characters are engaging enough to make the story work, and the cultures of the three primary types of sentient beings add that depth to the world that makes those things that would appear cliche at first forgivable.

Honestly, I'm not going to say that these cliched plot devices are a bad thing, they in no way harm the story, characters or that suspension of disbelief that all fiction requires from its audience. The fact that the story manages to stand up on its own despite these things is proof of how elegantly crafted both it, and its world are.

Cliche can be something of a disability in writing, but it's a cliche because they are story archetypes that work. If I want to go off on a tangent about Proppian topology and the likes- most stories follow a pattern, and nearly all have been told before. The point is that the mark of a good writer is to show us something we've seen before but make it new, exciting and some thing we want to come back to every week and read again.

Tom manages this- personally I put it down to his characters, each unique and being remarkably "human" for want of a better term. But at the same time I feel that its impossible to not include his world, societies etc. in that statement as well.

If you want to read a good "furry" comic, with romance, intrigue and a both beautifully crafted and drawn world, then you can't do much better than taking a look at Two Kinds.

Alone in a Crowd by Thomas D. Szewc
It would seem that its all the Tom's this week... oh well.

I'd like to say that Alone in a Crowd is cute... and it is, there are plenty of characters that fit that description. Thomas has a great sense of humour, and the comic shows this.

The strange part is, that certain events and character histories can be quite tragic at times and adds depth to the characters whilst also making the reader care about what happens to them. Some of their histories can be graphic when you really think about it but due to the way its written it makes us feel for them as opposed to simply being shocked or repulsed.

We have a girl who's bullied for being different- most people can relate to her. We have a girl who's constantly cheerful but is lonely because of her families apparent wealth. A big sister who acts like a mother- having left all of her dreams behind in order to care for her sister after her parents were killed.

Strangely out of the group the strongest and perhaps having the most "graphic" past is Desirae- the aunt of that big sister. She's strong, bold and proud. Or at least seems that way, perhaps its more experience than anything else but she certainly does have a weak side.

Her past is recounted in a rant that is obviously her defending what she does for a living but also shows her softer side- her vulnerabilities. Desirae is, in short, a porn star. And this may seem shocking in the setting of this comic but some how she fits in perfectly. During her life she's had some tough times due to directors and contracts- almost destroying her- yet she picked herself up and vowed to not let any other girl be treated the way she had been for all that time.

That's not to say she gives up on her job- she founds her own company that looks after it actresses and treats them as equals instead of destroying them as others did to her in the past.

It's strange that such a story can fit so well into this tale but that just goes to show the brilliance of the writer. He manages to make the story interesting, humourous at times and the characters really come alive.

AIAC is a difficult comic to explain, or even come close to describing properly- other than its one of those things you have to read for yourself.

- T III (angelKat Entertainment)

Introducing Miss Dee Alwood...

When it comes to survival, 9 times out of 10 strange is a bad idea. That said, no time to stand still- the town of Arcanus is under attack, those pesky Orcs are already burning, killing and kidnapping Fera left, right and centre- let's see if our heroes can do some thing about it.

In related news I've submitted a guest strip for J. Gray's guest week on Mysteries of the Arcana- once said week is over I'll be posting the page in the Extras section on FERA. He's also involved in a charity auction that will be happening in June (?) I believe where proceeds will go to the Point Foundation. So anyone who is interested in donating LGBT related artwork etc. should probably get in touch with him- I plan to donate some thing myself, have yet to decide what though.

For those who have been wondering what's happening with Technical Difficulties- that comic is currently on hiatus for a week or so whilst Donna gets settled into her new job. She's currently doing at least three 24 hour shifts per week so I'm sure you can understand that she's more than a little exhausted.

She is however currently putting together a script for a possible 3rd comic for the angelKat site- it will be an adventure story of sorts, partly to indulge our own interests in classical mythology. Donna has asked that I produce the artwork for it so we'll see how it goes. We don't have any definite dates for it being launched since we're currently just in the process of putting initial ideas together but we'll let you know as soon as its all sorted.

Remember, don't forget to vote for and stumble etc. FERA and Technical Difficulties, the links are in the sidebars on the individual pages- it's all very much appreciated.

Check out "Ask Kato" and get involved, we'd love to hear your questions and have them answered by the cast. It's a good way not only for you to get involved but help everyone get to know the characters of FERA that little bit better and for those of you with comics and other sites yourselves its another chance to have a link to your own page.

In the next month we've got a couple of things planned- first of all I'm going to be doing some thing for my 23rd birthday on the 15th April... no idea what as yet (I honestly have no clue what to do for it this year). Secondly I'm going to be, hopefully, posting an extra up on FERA to celebrate National Willy Fog day on 28th April- most likely some of my characters in various locations around the world. Thirdly we're going to be wandering over to a comics fair in Newcastle to see what's happening there- may even bring some flyers for the comics but we'll see what happens in the mean time.

I've mentioned a couple of webcomics recently here, and theres one webcomic-related thing that I really want to mention to you guys.

If you haven't heard of it already, TGT Webcomics produces one of my favourite podcasts on the subject (the others being the Webcomic Beacon and the occasional Webcomics Weekly) recently they've had some great comickers interviewed on the show- this week saw Phil Foglio of Girl Genius, they've had Emy Bitner from Trying Human, Eldon Cowgur from Astray3, Jennnie Breeden of the Devil's Panties and many more. They're well worth a listen whether it be Frumph and Kurt trying to squeeze spoliers out of Emy or learning some thing you never knew about your favourite artists. It's good fun and it's recorded live so you can even phone in and ask questions or be there in the chat room on talkshoe.

Now for some webcomic mentions (if that little out burst wasn't enough for you):

Trying Human by Emy Bitner
It's hard to describe Trying Human- it's one of those stories where you can tell every single thing has been planned out, and that all of those little details, species, history etc. are painstakingly crafted. So in a way I feel that saying "it's about this girl, she discovers she's been abducted by aliens, and romance ensues" seems like a poor way to summarise it.

But that is the essence of the story. We have two characters from very different worlds who fall for each other. Personally it brings to mind a modern day Romeo and Juliet... but with aliens, abductions and as some one once joked "probings".

Without spoiling it too much, Rose has been having nosebleeds and blackouts for a while. She seeks help to find out if some thing is medically wrong, only to discover that they have been caused by abductions. The Greys have been abducting humans for currently unknown reasons, and Rose passes the one Grey who seems to have a human quality and sparks fly.

A large amount of the universe, aliens etc. that inhabit Trying Human are based on real accounts of aliens and alien lore- the (I assume) Roswell crash in fact features in the comic as well as the currently well known Grey type aliens and their reptilian counterparts. And all in all you can tell that Emy is truly interested in the genre/lore behind it. It's nice to see some one with such a passion for their subject for a change.

It's one of those comics that the instant you start reading it, you keep going until you reach the end of the archive and then you aren't sure if you should say "wow" or "more". The artwork has a great style and I'm even jealous of her backgrounds. The story so far has been intriguing- and as with any such plot it answers one question and then raises another two.

It does contain some coarse language so I wouldn't suggest it for younger readers but certainly teenagers and young adults should enjoy it thoroughly.

Dawn of Time by Michael Stearns
Now this is an odd one. I only recently discovered Dawn of Time and the thing that first caught my attention was the lack of dialogue. The one or two appearances of characters that do speak, seem to be of little importance. The fact that the art itself can not only hold up against this apparent impairment but also carry a story and allow the character(s) to easily convey their feelings and emotions reminds me of old silent films.

Some of the strips have that comedy quality that some may recall from Chaplin or Laurel and Hardie. It's great to see this tradition carried on in comics, another highly visual medium. The comic has endearing characters such as the cave girl and her pet dinosaur as well as comic timing that is hard to get right in still drawings and appears to do this effortlessly.

The strangeness of the setting and the creatures etc. that she meets as well as the plight of those poor fish that seem to constantly get eaten, killed etc. no matter what they do adds not only to the comedy but to the sense of adventure.

Honestly though, what more could you ask for? What do you need dialogue for when you already have: humour, endearing characters, dinosaurs, cave girls, time travellers, amazing art and top hats?

I urge anyone who likes comics to go and check Dawn of Time out- it really is worth your time and it really will entertain.

- T III (angelKat Entertainment)

Here come the drums...

Sound the alarm, beat the drums, the enemy arrives.
- Song of War by Wilfred Shuxpahr.
(circa. 9000 BC)

This weeks update marks the beginning of the first real action sequence of FERA, hopefully it'll go off without a hitch. I've spent the last few weeks both looking forward and dreading this section of the story. On one hand its action packed and yet on the other- I have to draw this stuff lol.

For anyone curious, the guard is supposed to be in shock- Kato shaking him back to his senses. Although you could take it that he is merely a coward and hiding in the Marucci grounds in order to avoid combat.

This will also be the first real time our readers have seen Kato and Dom' in their "professional" setting- they are after all trained fighters, both heirs to the Marucci clan.

This week also sees a cameo of our mascot angelKat on Technical Difficulties. Due to Donna's current work schedule she's been finding it hard to get chance to produce strips- hopefully this will settle down soon, once she's gotten used to her new job. Two or more 24 hour shifts per week has got to be tough.

I've been thinking about tag lines for the comics. Everyone seems to think its a good idea but coming up with one is proving tricky. When it comes to Tech-Diff we can probably go with "Geek flavoured fun" perhaps... although still no real ideas for FERA.

If anyone has any suggestions for tag lines let me know- either by leaving comments on this blog entry or emailing me at t_iii@angelk.at.

Also I should probably mention that one of my old colleagues from university is doing great work in raising awareness and money to help Orangutans. She's selling artwork and even hand crafted jewellery to help support this cause so, if you're interested go take a look at her website and maybe help out if you can- her site is jwuniverse, there's some really nice things there and it's for a good cause too.

Now to the stuff you missed out on last time, here's two of the webcomics I've been reading recently:

Last Res0rt by Rachel Kelensky
Describing itself as "the cyberpunk furry webcomic" it more than delivers. We are treated with what is one of the better furry comics out there with a strangely reminiscent setting.

I'm a sucker for cyberpunk and steampunk but when I first started reading Last Res0rt I was still in the mind set of "furry label = bad"- not because I dislike furry in any sense, but simply that I had written a number of stories in the past that contained furry characters and the negative stigma attached to the style made me hesitant to share them with the world. If anything Last Res0rt was one of the two webcomics that really made me think I should give FERA a go.

For anyone who remembers the Running Man film the setting will seem familiar- we have criminals and the volunteers entered into a violent reality tv show. Some of these criminals are brutal, heartless and terrifying- yet somehow our "innocent" heroine, one Jigsaw, is twice as scary. We may think of her as good but she really does have a dark side, and it'll be interesting to see how this displays in the coming chapters.

Over the course of the story we've been introduced to a huge amount of characters and I take my hat off to Rachel for the amount of effort that must go into each page especially when a large portion of those characters make appearances.

We have the usual assortment of humans, furries, lizards, aliens etc. as well as the occasional vampire- thankfully not the sparkly kind, and they certainly come off as being more threat than any thing else. I'm interested to see how the "Light Child" background progresses, as (if I'm remembering correctly) they are essentially autistic in some sense. Personally I'm curious mostly because Donna, my fiancee, cared for her younger brother, who is a non-verbal autistic, most of her life.

Despite the quite dark premise there is an element of humour, the characters themselves are witty and intelligent but also we see at times a slap-stick element. The two seem to rarely be seen together any more and the combination is a nice change.

I can't think of much else to say about Last Res0rt. If you like a good story, humour, drama and action as well as plenty of characters to read about then you can't too much better than reading this.

Menage a 3 by Gisele Lagace and Dave Zero 1
This comic, is a huge leap from the world of Last Res0rt, from the style, the format and everything else. There is little to compare other than perhaps the lack of things to compare.

Now that I've opened with a completely confusing line perhaps I should get to a real description.. hm... well... it's like this...

We have a geek who's freezes up around girls, his gay room mates move out without notice, leaving him to interview potential new room mates. Just so happens that the two who apply are a punk rocker and well the other one is well endowed- both girls.

As you can imagine the plot and jokes can get a little "blue" at times but never to a great extent. Honestly it is aimed at an adult audience, with sex and sexuality being major themes in the story- never being explicit per se but with plenty of references, and even though it isn't shown you get the picture.

In all of this the sexual side of the comic doesn't bog down the story, and it really does manage to show sex in a good light. Unlike a lot of comics and other media that seems to imply sex is some how dirty or wrong, Menage a 3 really shows that it can be funny, and it is a perfectly normal and natural thing. The major difference in how Menage a 3 treats sex compared to perhaps the likes of the comics available on Slipshine (and I'm not saying this is a bad thing in either direction) is that Giz and Dave aren't afraid to actually show real concerns and take sex seriously once in a while.

Yes the comic is filled with jokes, one liners and honestly Zii's description of why girls don't like facials made me laugh, but they aren't afraid to look at topics such as virginity, porn, unrealistic expectations and even the topic of women not being satisfied by their partners.

Although the strip seems heavily sex related and sexually aware, there is an element of geek humour. There is very few things funnier than discussions about zombie smurfs... other than fellating a smurf, but that's irish comedians for you.

I know some people will be put off, perhaps even by my description and the fact I've lingered over the sexual side of the strip a little too much. This is an adult strip and it's done tastefully, so even if you're a little prudish take a look and you never know the humour might win you over. In fact the story and character development should win most people over.

In my oppinion Menage a 3 really is worth reading, and I hope the creators will continue to produce what is a hillarious, endearing and for some an enlightening look at relationships, life and everything in between.

- T III (angelKat Entertainment)

Another NEWW week...

*BEEP* Cataloguing known species of Mu *BEEP*
Found: 3,000 sentient species. *CLICK*
Found: 700 species with comparable Tech to Earth *CLICK*
Found: 85 feral species with Tech *CLICK*
Found: 24 feral species capable of resistance *CLICK*
Found: 1 possible threat to conquest of Mu *CLICK*
Threat: designation... And before any one says it, yes Kato is attracted to the fairer sex, we'll just have to wait and see how she comes to terms with her feelings and if she ever does find that someone.

Also, as someone pointed out, Kato's tail is incorrectly positioned in one of the panels- I intend to fix this in following updates but for now I will claim that in this weeks page her jeans were not designed with Fera in mind, and her tail is actually having to come up over the waist to get out (which sounds awfully uncomfortable to me).

Also in FERA news- theres now a section on the site for asking the cast some questions. It's called "Ask Kato" and is set up in the typical agony aunt type way so you can ask questions by emailing or posting in our forum. You can find out more by taking a look at the Ask Kato page- theres currently some silly temp questions up as examples. The questions can be about anything, from the story, world, characters, their beliefs etc. to real world things. Bear in mind all questions selected for the page will be based on the characters knowledge and they can't give spoilers for upcoming arcs.

Recently we posted FERA's details on the Belfry comics listing- and I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed FERA had been in the top 10 most read (#1 at one point) for over a week.

Speaking of listings, those of you who are into webcomics, or make your own- check out Webcomic Planet if you haven't already. It's a great listing, theres even some interesting games etc. as well as chat and forums.

To top it all off Frumph aka. Phil who runs the site is a great help and if you're having trouble with wordpress/comic press or just want some advice on your site he's probably the one to ask. He's also currently running an event called "War!" involving several webcomics battling it out with dice rolls in chat to be crowned the victor. Being a Dungeons and Dragons fan theres something appealing about the War to me- perhaps next year will see FERA or Tech-Diff amongst the combatants.

I attended a Digital Jobs Fair this week, it was interesting- but it seems that the majority of employers are looking for "software eng." for web development work, which isn't much use for us C++ guys. I'm really interested in learning some more advanced web dev stuff as well as getting some experience with creating flash games.

We're currently finishing off a couple of design series' for possible future merchandise and some wallpapers etc. just in case fans are interested. If anyone knows of a decent print on demand service we could look into for shirts and other merch let us know. We just got our hands on a button/badge machine this week for producing 1.5" buttons as well... and yes I was a geek and tested it by making a blood smeared smiley face.

No comic mentions for this week since I've probably rambled on enough already. Next post though, I promise I'll put together a couple of interest- for now though I'll just leave you guys with a couple of interesting links:

New England Webcomic Weekend- It seems a huge group of webcomic creators and fans will be descending on New England this coming weekend. So remember- lock up your daughters, hide the booze and try not to make direct eye contact.... oh and maybe, just maybe some one can come up with something like this in actual England :P

War!- the brainchild of Frumph aka. Phil of Webcomic Planet, this has been going for a while now, with a few webcomics getting involved to battle it out for honour, glory and some such.

- T III (angelKat Entertainment)

Introducing Miss Dominique Marucci...

<quote>A warrior is born with fire in their eyes and
a lust for blood and justice.</quote>
- <from>on the birth of Vittore the Red,
founder of Clan Marucci.</from>
(<date>circa. 11,000 BC.)</date>

This week sees the introduction of the second Marucci sister, Dominique, to FERA. Soon we'll have a nice little band of adventurers.

Dominique (also Dom, or as Kato likes to tease- "Eeekie") is the eldest of the sisters, though by only a couple of minutes as they are fraternal twins. She is also heir to the rule of clan Marucci- her grandfather Jakob being the current head of the clan- though she has taken over the mantle of Commanding officer of the city watch of Arcanus.

Aside from the introduction of a new major character, this week also sees Technical Difficulties finally having ComicPress installed, theres still a couple things to add and improve but it looks a lot cleaner now and the comic is slightly larger for those who were quinting to read it previously.

As a result we now also have an RSS feed for Tech-Diff as well so feel free to subscribe to that too.

As you can probably tell by recent Tech-Diff strips, we recently got to see Watchmen at a staff screening. I realise this has had the comics community divided, but personally I enjoyed it. The film was just as graphic as the book was- and the audience gasped and held their breath at the right parts. The changes were minor really when looking at what could have been cut- and after having to explain to some of the "hard-core" graphic novel fans at the screening the significance of the squid, it seems to me that if they don't get it, then a cinema audience with no knowledge of the comics would be utterly confused.

We've made jokes about the sex scene between Nightowl and Silk Spectre- but despite the cameramans fixation on Dan's backside it was incredibly tender, comical and sweet in its own way, whilst also showing the longing each character has for their own reasons. I have to admit, the choice of song to play when Dan finally "get's it up" cracked me up- "Hallelujah" of all things.

All in all, the cast played difficult parts, and scenes that most actors would shy away from incredibly well- and for what they've produced they should be incredibly proud. I realise Alan Moore and certain fans will disagree and claim that the film was terrible, but they are welcome to their oppinions but in my eyes Watchmen is one of those stories that is hard to translate to the big screen and yet they some how managed to do it justice.

I've heard people complain that the film is gorier, or more graphic and disturbing than the graphic novel. To me, both had the same level of violence, the same level of images that are simply repulsive and disturbing (Manhattens genitals not being one of those)- the only explanation to this reaction I can think of is that seeing that horror and gore in still hand drawn pictures has a completely different effect than seeing it in live action, on a big screen with "real" people acting it out.

Sorry for the rant/review but I did really enjoy the film, and I can see why some people thought it was terrible but to each their own I suppose.

And any way, on to the good stuff... I started something in my last blog post- I decided to do a short description of one or two of the ever growing list of webcomics I've been reading lately.

This week I've chosen two (since I think last posts selection may have been a little too much for a single post- if I keep doing that I'm going to run out of comics to mention). So, here goes nothing:

Mysteries of the Arcana by J Gray (art by Keith W.)
Although still early in the story, this comic has already become compelling. We have seen several characters make appearances, the world(s) is already taking shape and its incredibly intriguing. Personally the attention to detail in the settings adds to the already building curiousity. The instant we see the machine we want to know why, who, what- in fact the novel introduction to our first real character is unusual in itself. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the story thus far but when we see Theresa for the first time, we're full of questions- is she a major character? If so why is she about to kill herself? What happened to her family? Did she run away or is there nothing to run away from?

J Gray manages to do some thing that is incredibly tricky to balance and the artist, Keith, really does help here too, and thats to balance those questions so that curiousity it piqued but without infuriating the audience with piling on information, or the lack of answers to those questions. Instead of driving the audience mad with these questions we're sucked into the world and really want to know more, and to learn about this world and its people just as Theresa herself does.

Whilst characters such as Blue (the sentient viscous liquid that lives in a space suit) bear striking resemblance to certain characters from Hellboy it feels perfectly acceptable that such creatures should exist in this world- especially when we see reptilian creatures, faeries and invisible men idly chatting in the background. The depth of the world that J. has created is astounding and really draws you in.

If you aren't already convinced that you really should take a look, have a quick read through (the archive is still in its infancy at the moment so it won't take long), then I don't know how else to convince you. If you're into elves, mythical creatures, tarot, magic or LGBT comics or even if you just want to be taken some where new then a comic with all of that and the potential to travel to 78 different universes- what more could you ask for?

Girl Genius by Phil and Kaja Foglio
Seriously, if you don't already have this bookmarked- why not? Its a gripping tale of "adventure, romance and mad science!" And I really do mean that- the Foglio's are an inspiration and their artwork is to die for. The world of Agatha Heterodyne is beautifully crafted and I honestly can't think of anything wrong with it other than I wish it were mine.

The Foglio's have even made this puppy into the occasional radio play and every now and then we take a break from the main storyline to see comic versions of these plays or in one case a re-imagining of the classic Cinderella fairy tale.

If you're curious as to what this tale is about- set in a steampunk (Victorian?) Europa, Agatha is a lowly, bumbling lab assistant who realises her destiny as the heir to the Heterodyne legacy- a family of adventurers who saved the world countless times. She sets out on a journey to not only prove herself but to evade those who would like nothing more than to destroy or control her.

The entire comic is littered with suspense as well as great humour, both provided by major characters and those charming young men know as Jaggermonsters, and right down to her faithful(?) companion Krosp... the Emperor of Cats.

You have monsters, evil creatures trying to take over the world, a Victorian era setting filled with clockwork creatures, zeppelins and talking cats as well as political intrigue- briliantly constructed characters and psychotic castles. What more could an avid reader want? You want more huh? Well go and read it, I promise you won't regret it.

- T III (
angelKat Entertainment)

Please welcome- Miss Kato Marucci

Life cannot be rushed. Death can wait, for there is much to do.
- Wisdom of the Ancients.
(circa 43,200BC)

This last month has been a blur. It doesn't seem like it's been so long since the launch of angelKat Entertainment, or the two comics.

Hopefully this will be just the beginning. We have Kato introduced in FERA this week, she is our would be heroine and we will be seeing more of the major cast begin to make appearances over the next few weeks.

As I said the last month has been a blur, but hardly smooth. With the death of my great-grandma, and funeral arrangements etc. it's been a hectic and troubling time including the obligatory family bickering. Hopefully this has settled down by now or at least some semblance of normality will return shortly.

As for the comics, we've got huge plans for both and hope that you will all join us for the ride. In the past few weeks I've updated the layout of FERA to use Comicpress- I hope to do the same for Technical Difficulties shortly. The effect has been to create a much more steamlined version of the site and I think it looks a lot better.

If you hadn't noticed FERA now also has an RSS feed that you're welcome to subscribe to. Extras for FERA are in production, soon you'll be able to download wallpapers etc.

Feel free to visit (and vote for) FERA and Tech-Diff on topwebcomics, webcomicplanet, webcomicsinc, as well as twitter: t_iii and donnakebab.

Also I'd like to congratulate Donna on getting her new job and just say that I'm incredibly proud of her :)

I've decided to start a new thing on this blog, simply to briefly mention some of the webcomics I've been reading that may or may not interest our readers:

The Devil's Panties by Jennie Breeden
Most people have probably heard of this comic already, and if you haven't you really should take a look. This was the first webcomic I ever read years ago- up until that point I didn't even know there was such a thing.

It's an autobiographical strip following the life of the authoress, with strange happenings, Jesus, the Devil, Pirates, conventions and more. Theres a lot of things to mention in these strips but it would take a lifetime to explain. It can be incredibly geeky, silly or just bizarre but its very difficult to go more than 2 or 3 strips without at least a giggle.

I recently got my hands on a copy of her 2nd book and its packed with extras, all well worth reading. The only downside to DP is that it makes the rest of us look bad.

The Zombie Hunters by Jenny Romanchuk
Another brilliant comic, although this time far grittier and a graphic novel style as opposed to a strip. We see the exploits of the few survivors of a Zombie Apocalypse, salvaging whatever they need to keep their people going. As you can guess this team is well equipped to fight the impending Zombie hordes- with shovels and everything.

I'm a huge fan of old Zombie films (Romero was a genious and even some spoofs were great) and not normally fond of running Zombies. Romanchuck has re-envisioned the Zombie genre and added variations on the typical shambling horde including some interesting creations.

If you like Zombie films, post apocalyptic stories, human survival and simply breathtaking and gritty/dark art then The Zombie Hunters really is the place to go.

Astray3 by Eldon Cowgur
What can I say about Astray3? Eldon has created an amazing world, where every page practically begs more questions. There is something so riveting about the story, the details of the world and its creatures that makes this one comic that once you get started reading you won't want to stop.

As we did when we were children watching sci-fi on tv or reading a great novel, we are transported from our world into Eldon's exquisitely crafted imagination. The level of detail is astounding and really harks back to the old style european comic books we grew up with.

With the fast pace of updates (6 days per week?) the story progresses quickly and honestly once you start reading it really is a blessing to have a new page the following day.

Without giving too much away (and if I even interpret correctly)- Emily, an indecisive girl is doing nothing with her life, and when it comes time to make a decision she is whisked away to another world beyond her control. When she arrives she finds herself surrounded by apparent monsters, and discovers that in this world, she has certain advantages. She can't quite leap tall buildings in a single bound. She isn't a super hero but in this world she has slightly improved physical abilities. And did I mention her blood/spit is like acid to those who wish to hurt her? How does it even know? Eldon hasn't told us yet, but thats yet another mystery that begs to be answered and will keep the anxious reader coming back for more.

Khaos Komic by Tab Kimpton
Another comic that is well worth a look, if only due to its unique storytelling. I have to admit, I have seen this technique used before, although if Khaos Komic is anything to go by it certainly lends itself more to the visual medium than the text based medium it tends to be seen in.

The current story follows the lives of a group of friends, as they find love, discover themselves and learn how to deal with their discoveries. The comic itself may not be to everyones taste as it does contain a large amount of homosexual relationships, love interests etc. Whilst it contains gay, lesbian and even transgender characters I would hope that wouldn't put people off, because it really is a great read.

The interest comes in that these events are repeated through the eyes of each character in turn. So things we didn't see or simply the thought process of the people involved are shown to us over time. It's amazing to see those things you missed in previous accounts have such a huge impact on the following events. Kimpton has successfully put together an intertwined story that is beautifully complex and the characters perceptions and thought processes are brilliantly portrayed.

Definitely one to read if you enjoy real character development and interesting storytelling techniques.

Slightly Damned by Raizy the Chu
Slightly Damned is another of my favourites, and I feel bad that it is the last one I come to in this weeks list. Another well developed world, containing Angels, Demons, Death and Jakkai- read the comic to find out more about these. The story itself revolves around the Jakkai, Rhea's death and subsequent incarceration in the outer rings of hell- not evil enough for hell but not good enough for heaven. She is befriended by the strange and fluffy minded Buwaro, a demon with an interesting past and a fondness for hugs... and rocks.

As the story progresses and the duo escape from hell they are joined by the Angel/Bunny, Kieri. The real greatness of this comic is simply the progression of the relationships between our 3 major characters. I can only hope that the relationships between FERA's troop progress quite so well. If you enjoy a good adventure story, and some cuddly moments or just a story where you will really feel for the characters then this is the one for you. I REALLY don't want to spoil this comic for anyone so I'm not sure how much I can say other than these characters are so well thought out, their relationships so well put together that you really will care about what happens to them- even down to the loveable Thadius, Buwaro's pet rock.

Anyway, enough of my rants, check those comics out and hopefully I'll be pointing out some more next time. I'd include more this week but I think you've had me rant on long enough already.

Hope you enjoy FERA and Technical Difficulties this week, keep reading, vote for us and feel free to spread the word or come talk to us on twitter.

- T III (angelKat Entertainment)

Another week, another Emo-Ninja...

Have you ever wondered what lies beyond our walls?
Chaos. A lot of the things we have or will make fun of are things we love (with the exception of Twiglet I suppose but that was out of being sick of fans accosting Donna at her work place).

In that strip we have some more tales following Crag and Mel coming up and the many adventures of our glorious hero Emo Man.

FERA will be updating again on monday around 10pm GMT as usual. I hope you guys will enjoy it- we have ninjas (sort of).

Appologies again for my previous blog. I was in an odd mood and really wanted to talk about lasagne with some one- in fact afterwards I ended up ranting at a friend about why certain cheeses and other ingredients should be selected carefully or not at all to construct the perfect lasagne, and how chips made in a real chip pan are more suited due to flavour and texture... yeah I'm a freak, but I have rights!

Earlier in the week I finally got to play Skate (PS3) again... its a really fun game and yes I know its old now and the sequel has been released but I wanted to play the original- that said I should at some point get the demo of the new one to have a play through.

Other than that I've been enjoying playing Little Big Planet (PS3) at least partly because I get to have Stephen Fry tell me how to play a video game for hours on end... theres some thing comforting about the way he says the word "cool".

I've also been playing a lot of Fable 2 (360) which is more fun that I'd expected, despite some strange bugs and the fact that the dog is almost as bad as Navi from Ocarina of Time- and condoms are NOT treasure! In fact I recently played the new Prince of Persia game (360) and found it really good fun. I liked the similarity to Ubisoft Montreal's previous title Assassins Creed, which I still hold to be a good game despite its flaws and criticisms. After noticing what appeared to be reused world objects and such (i.e. the beams jutting out of towers in AC appearing in PoP) I did the only sane thing and got myself the Altair skin... which made it even more fun.

To be honest I haven't played half as many games as I should lately. I have yet to test the Dreamcast I recently bought, nor found out whether my new version of Vandal Hearts (PS) is in
English since the manual appears to be in every European language but English. Also bought a copy of Klonoa (PS) and Mall Tycoon (PC) the latter simply due to being produced by a local development team.

And of course I had to get myself a copy of Left4Dead (PC) before christmas which has been great fun to play- not fond of the witches (I think thats what they're called).

I was amazed yesterday when I noticed a copy of the Devils Panties volume 2 in a local comic book shop. In years of looking for any copies of DP locally its the first I've ever seen- so obviously I had to buy and read it, definitely worth the £14.

There was a pause in the shop when I noticed they'd released Talisman again- a board game I played as a child that was discontinued a long time ago. If you've never heard of it, it was simply a fantasy based board game from GamesWorkshop. Quite simple but the old version could go on for days if you let it. You had monsters to fight, gold to loot, player characters... dragons to slay. All in all it was a fun game, the new version has replaced the cardboard characters with actual miniatures which is an improvement but since the original consisted of a main board with optional additional modules (4 corner pieces, new monsters, the tower including the dragon) and the new version has yet to release those modules I think I'll wait a little while before forking over so much cash for a board game- even if it was the one that got me into Dungeons and Dragons.

- T III (angelKat Entertainment)

Of FERA and perfect lasagne...

I've never met a meal I didn't like. I'm not talking expensive rubbish where some so called chef has taken a simple dish and covered it in some unknown but apparently important garnish that makes you feel stupid for having to ask what it is, or uncultured for thinking it tastes foul.

By good food, I'm talking home made, simple comfort foods that we enjoy because it simply tastes good and fills up that gap we've been leaving since breakfast.... that said I think I had soup for breakfast this morning...

Ignoring my last comment- if you know me well enough, or sneakily read the title of this post before attempting to decipher my ramblings, you may have noticed that one of my favourite comfort foods is lasagne... generally served with chips (gasp, shock, horror- how could I? It tastes nice, thats all there is to it).

Now, I'm not fond of cheese, and the first time I ever tried lasagne was at work in a law firm- still to this day I rank that lasagne one of the best I've ever tasted. Oddly the lasagne in question was from a small cafe, some would call it a "greasy spoon" but I think thats a little unfair. Its a little place called Michaels Cafe Rendevous in my home town. Nothing better than their lasagne and proper chips.

Ever since first tasting that I've been addicted to lasagne, and made a point to order it whenever it was on the menu. I've found a couple that are almost as nice, one that is its equal (but neither tastes quite alike), and some which were simply foul- that said the latter were in places specialising in other things that they produced to better standards than any others locally.

This may seem like a strange thing to say, and this is simply some thing from my own curiousity and my slight obsession with lasagne (I even bought the NDS Cooking Guide after discovering it had 2 variations of lasagne recipes)- but over the past few years I've compiled an ever changing/growing list of places that serve excellent lasagne and ranked them.

I'm unsure as to whether any one but me would find this interesting, or useful but heres a sample of my list:

1st) Joint between: Michaels Cafe Rendevous and Tuscano's in South Shields
2nd) Castles- the Northumbria University cafeteria, on the few occasions they serve it, although all of their pasta is delicious (I recommend the chilli).
3rd) Bimbi's in Newcastle (in Eldon Square if anyones interested) only real reason its 3rd is the inclusion of mushrooms and it can be a little dry.
4th) Cafe Nero in South Shields- I was surprised at this one, but yes they make a good lasagne- their minestrone soup isn't half bad either.
5th) Dare I say it- Asda's "extra special" lasagne is another surprisingly nice meal, and means I can keep it frozen at home for when I get that craving lol.

I feel bad saying it but there is one lasagne I wasn't too fussed on, and that was at Louis in Sunderland.

First of all I'd like to make it clear that Louis is really a great fish and chips place, can't beat it any where I've been- same goes for their English breakfast (its become a staple of mine and Donna's visits to Sunderland). But their lasagne wasn't the nicest I've ever tasted.

Now I'm not fond of cheese, in fact I tend to avoid food with an excess of it, unless its a baked potato but thats another matter, Louis lasagne appears to have far too much MATURE CHEDDAR which to me is far too strong a cheese and destroys the other flavours in the dish- especially when its layered so thickly.

So, what foods do you guys love? Any favourite places that serve that one meal you're addicted to?

Sorry for that little detour, but I've been wanting to post some thing like this for years, and I'm in a strange mood.

So, without further ado- FERA is up and running, hope you guys enjoy it.

-T III (angelKat Entertainment)

Welcome to the world of FERA

"Yes, welcome to our little patch of the cosmos. T III.

We launched our production studio's website on 1st January 2009 and expect to begin uploading pages later this month. FERA is one of two main webcomics that we are working on, the other is a 4 panel comedy strip filled with geeky-english humour called Technical Difficulties.

This blog, however, is going to be a combination of updates on FERA and angelKat Entertainment perhaps in the future including conventions that we will be attending. I'll be posting extra information about characters, the setting etc. and I appologise now for the occasional rant on video games, tv, films or books.

So what is FERA about?
In the near future war breaks out, and rages on Earth for close to a century. Technology has ground to a halt, but in 2068AD Dr. William H. Efnair rips the planet Mu back into our universe- a planet that once orbited Earth twelve millenia ago.

As the forces of Earth look up from their civil wars at a possible new enemy, their fear allows a tech-warlord Genn to rise to power, securing his place as the new Emperor of Earth and declaring war on our unsuspecting intruder.

FERA follows the events that result on Mu, and a group of adventurers- out of time- attempting to save their world from the brutal forces of Earth.

Who are these adventurers?
Not wanting to give too much away about upcoming events I'll simply say this- our adventurers consist of a mismatched group from the southern races of Mu's largest continent, Topeia. From the feline- Fera, the reptilian- Virr, the lagomorphic- Lepus and Human races amongst others.

How can I get involved?
If your interested in FERA or one of our other comics, drop us an email or post a comment on here to let us know what you think. Same if you have any questions about the comics, their worlds etc. You never know, on the FERA site we're planning to run an "ASK KATO" short comic, which we will update whenever we get an interesting question and you can have the characters answer something about their lives or how their worlds work so feel free to email us with questions- if you really want Kato or another character to answer mention it in your email and we'll see what we can do.

We also have openings for advertising on the sites, so take a look at this for more info if thats something you may be interested in. Other than that, we are currently putting together some merchandise that will be available in our shop pages and you're always welcome to donate to the artists.

If you want to support angelKat and our comics but can't afford to buy merchandise etc. then fear not, you can vote for our comics in various online lists and rankings- we'll keep you updated here as to where you can vote for us. Other than that, get the word out- if you like the comics, tell your friends or even put a link on your own blog or website to ours, its all appreciated.

- T III (angelKat Entertainment)
